B'desh Consulate issues caution for Saudi-based expatriates

The Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah has issued a special caution for Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia, urging them to follow local laws and avoid legal complications.

In a public notice issued Monday (September 28), the consulate advised expatriates not to post, share, store or exchange social media content that violates Saudi laws, public safety or order. They were also urged not to like, comment on or share such posts.

The consulate warned against signing documents without fully understanding them or signing blank papers and providing fingerprints. It also advised against using one’s iqama to register mobile phones, SIM cards, vehicles or other assets in another person’s, sponsor’s or company’s name.

Expatriates were further urged to avoid working in places other than those permitted by their iqama, collecting or selling discarded goods, roadside businesses without permission, illegal water sales and other punishable activities.

The consulate also advised caution in financial dealings with unknown individuals or organisations and warned against job-related fraud.

It said respecting local laws is essential for ensuring a safe and dignified life for Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia and maintaining the country’s positive image.
