No LPG shortage in Bangladesh: Operators assure energy minister

LPG operators have assured Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud that there is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas in the country’s market.

The assurance came at a meeting organised by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday to review LPG imports, stocks, supply and market prices.

According to National Board of Revenue data presented at the meeting, Bangladesh imported 157,760 metric tonnes of LPG in August and 118,742 metric tonnes up to September 22.

The data showed that the country’s LPG supply and stock situation was satisfactory, the operators said.

The minister urged operators to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers and warned against hoarding that could create public suffering.

He also heard about various obstacles faced by operators and instructed the Energy Division to take steps to resolve them quickly.

Iqbal said the ministry would provide all-out cooperation to remove barriers to LPG imports and take necessary measures to keep the country’s energy situation normal.
