Cabinet congratulates PM on UNGA participation

The Cabinet on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Bangladesh delegation on their participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing the participation as a significant event for the country.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Tarique Rahman addressed the UNGA General Debate on September 24 during his five-day visit to New York. He also held a series of bilateral and high-level meetings with world leaders, UN officials and representatives of international organisations.

According to the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister took part in 30 engagements during his four working days in New York, including 11 bilateral meetings, eight UNGA-related engagements and 11 institutional meetings.

The Cabinet said the visit helped present Bangladesh’s priorities and interests on the international stage and contributed to expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The Cabinet also noted that Tarique Rahman is the third member of his family to address the UN General Assembly, following his father Ziaur Rahman and mother Khaleda Zia.
