Bringing Hasina back is a bilateral issue between B'desh and India: Zahed

The government views bringing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back from India as a bilateral issue between Bangladesh and India, Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks while answering questions from journalists at the government’s weekly briefing on the progress of various activities at the Press Information Department conference room at the Secretariat.

Zahed said Bangladesh wants Hasina back and is in communication and discussions with India over the matter. He said her court verdicts and cases in Bangladesh are also being discussed.

“Communication and discussions are ongoing with India regarding bringing her back,” he said.

The adviser said he had also conveyed Bangladesh’s position on Hasina’s return during a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner. The issue has also been raised in discussions between Indian representatives and other responsible government officials.

Asked about the possible role of the United States in bringing Hasina back, Zahed said the government primarily views the matter as a bilateral issue between Bangladesh and India. He said there was no need for US involvement as a third party.
