AG urges objective reporting of irregularities in judiciary

Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal has urged journalists to report objectively if they come across irregularities, misconduct or corruption anywhere in the judiciary, including the Supreme Court and the Attorney General’s Office.
He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a programme marking the second founding anniversary of the Supreme Court Reporters Forum (SRF) on Tuesday.
Kazal said he had a close relationship with journalists covering the Supreme Court and understood their professional challenges to some extent, having worked as a journalist for many years.
He also highlighted the positive impact of media reports on various court-related issues. He said several issues had been reported since he took office and some had produced positive results.
Citing an example, the attorney general said he had come across an instance where petitions on the same matter had been filed before multiple High Court benches and orders obtained. The matter had been brought to the attention of the relevant court, which would issue further orders after reviewing the necessary documents.
Referring to the judiciary as a source of livelihood for lawyers, Kazal said journalists had an important role in ensuring that the entire profession was not affected by irregularities committed by a few individuals.
He also urged journalists to highlight positive developments in the judiciary, saying a large number of cases had recently been disposed of in the Appellate Division and High Court Division through the efforts of the Chief Justice.
Kazal said everyone should act responsibly so that the public did not receive a wrong impression about the courts. He stressed the importance of presenting accurate information to the public.
The attorney general formally inaugurated the programme by cutting a cake at 1:00 PM.
SRF President Md Didarul Alam chaired the programme, while General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Dalim moderated it. Supreme Court Registrar General Habibur Rahman Siddiqui and senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir also spoke at the event.
Earlier, a rally was brought out from in front of the Supreme Court Annex Building at around 12:15 PM. It paraded the court premises before ending in front of the fountain at the main building.
The Supreme Court Reporters Forum was established in 2024 to promote mutual cooperation in professional duties, protect journalists’ rights and dignity, and ensure responsible and objective reporting on court-related matters.
