ACC seeks travel ban on ex-state minister Arafat

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to seek a court order restricting former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat and his wife, Sharmin Mustary, from travelling abroad.

The decision was taken at the ACC headquarters on Tuesday (September 29), said Assistant Director Md Tanzir Ahmed.

The ACC said allegations of money laundering had been raised against Arafat and individuals and organisations linked to his interests. The commission has approved an application to the court seeking to restrict their foreign travel.

Arafat, a former Dhaka-17 MP, has remained out of public view since August 5, 2024. His and his wife’s bank transactions were frozen by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit on August 12, 2024.
