Two get life for rape in two districts

Separate courts in Joypurhat and Narayanganj districts on Tuesday sentenced two people to life imprisonment over separate rape incidents.

JOYPURHAT: A court here sentenced a 55-year-old man to life imprisonment on Tuesday for raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Panchbibi Upazila of the district.

Judge Abdur Rahman of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict at around 2 pm, also fining the convict, Hamidul Sheikh, Tk 50,000 with an additional six months in prison in default.

According to the case details, Hamidul, a neighbour of the victim, assaulted the eighth-grade student at her home on March 27, 2025, while she was alone, and subsequently subjected her to repeated abuse under threats. The crime came to light five months later when the victim fell ill and was found to be pregnant.

The victim’s father filed a case on August 19, 2025, leading to a charge sheet filed on September 30, 2025, following a police investigation.

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 29: A court on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man to life in prison for raping a 10-year-old girl in Bandar Upazila of the district in 2022.

The Child Violence Tribunal also fined Monir Hossain Tk 5,000, with an additional two months of hard labour if the fine is not paid. Judge Md Mominur Rahman handed down the verdict in the presence of the convict.

Police said Monir Hossain raped the child at a rented home on July 18, 2022. The girl’s mother later filed a case with Bandar Police Station, leading to the conviction.
