Florence Pugh credits Tom Holland for Spider-Man role

Florence Pugh has credited Tom Holland with helping bring her Marvel character Yelena Belova into "Spider-Man: Brand New Day".

Pugh made the remarks during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Monday. She said Holland had publicly expressed his wish to work with her several years ago.

“This all happened because of Tom,” Pugh said. She recalled that after "Black Widow" was released, Holland was asked which actor he wanted to appear with in a future film. He named Pugh, who plays Yelena.

Pugh said Holland’s comment excited fans about the possibility of the two actors appearing together.

Pugh first played Yelena in "Black Widow" in 2021. She later reprised the role in "Thunderbolts" in 2025 and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in 2026. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Yelena is an assassin and successor to the Black Widow title.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" was released on July 31 and has grossed $2.49 billion at the domestic box office, according to Variety.

Pugh is also set to reprise her role as Princess Irulan Corrino in Denis Villeneuve’s "Dune: Part Three". The film is scheduled for release on December 18. On the same day, she is expected to return as Yelena in "Avengers: Doomsday", directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
