Multifaceted initiatives for older people taken: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government has taken various initiatives for welfare of the country’s older people.

“To establish a welfare-based humane country, the government has undertaken multifaceted action plans to ensure social security, financial protection, healthcare services and a dignified life for senior citizens,” he said in a message on the eve of the International Day of Older Persons 2026, scheduled to be observed today (Thursday).

The day will be observed in Bangladesh, as elsewhere in the world, under the theme “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”

The prime minister greeted all older citizens of the country, saying the government remained alert and committed to protecting their rights.

Tarique Rahman said, “Initiatives have been taken to create opportunities for older people to lead safe and dignified lives by expanding the old-age allowance and making the social protection system more effective and inclusive.”
