The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned that two to three low-pressure systems could form in the Bay of Bengal this October, with at least one potentially intensifying into a severe cyclone.
The long-term weather forecast was issued on Thursday following a regular meeting of BMD's expert committee chaired by Director Md Mominul Islam.
The report noted that the country may experience slightly less rainfall than average in October. However, potential low-pressure systems could cause sudden weather shifts in coastal regions and river basins.
Additionally, the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from Bangladesh during the first half of October. Daily average evaporation will range between 2.0 and 4.0 mm, with daily sunshine duration averaging 4.0 to 6.0 hours.
Reviewing September's climate data, BMD noted nationwide rainfall remained 17.9 per cent below average, with Sylhet recording the highest rainfall deficit at 44.3 per cent. Three low-pressure systems formed in the Bay during September, two of which developed into deep depressions before weakening over Indian and Myanmar coasts.
