Dev faces criticism over promotional antics

Actor Dev has faced criticism on social media over his interactions with co-stars Subhashree Ganguly and Idhika Paul during a promotional event for their upcoming film ‘Deshu 7’ in Tripura.
Videos and photos from the event have gone viral on social media, prompting mixed reactions from netizens.
In one video, Dev is seen standing between Subhashree and Idhika. When Subhashree wipes her forehead with a tissue, Dev takes it from her and wipes her forehead. He then does the same for Idhika.
While some viewers found the gestures caring, others criticised them as exaggerated and described them as a publicity stunt for the film.
The criticism intensified after Dev knelt down and kissed Subhashree’s hand on stage. Some social media users described the incident as “drama” and “publicity stunt”, while others made personal comments involving Dev’s current partner Rukmini Maitra and his past relationship with Subhashree.
Dev is the producer of ‘Deshu 7’, which marks his directorial debut. The action-romantic film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on October 16.
Dev and Subhashree first appeared together in the 2009 film ‘Challenge’, directed by Raj Chakraborty. They later starred together in films including ‘Poran Jay Joliya Re’, ‘Romeo’ and ‘Khokababu’.
The pair separated in 2013 and reunited on screen in ‘Dhumketu’, which was released in August 2025 after remaining unreleased for nearly a decade.
Subhashree is married to director Raj Chakraborty, while Dev is in a relationship with model and actress Rukmini Maitra.
