Jamaat to observe dengue awareness week

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a nationwide dengue awareness week from October 4 to 10 to raise public awareness about prevention of the mosquito-borne disease.

The programme will be inaugurated at 9am on Saturday at the Madhubagh playground in Moghbazar, Dhaka, by Jamaat Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman, the party said in a press release.

The party said the initiative was taken amid growing concern over the dengue situation across the country, with the aim of increasing public awareness and encouraging people to take preventive measures.

As part of the week-long programme, Jamaat plans to conduct awareness activities across the country. The party has also called upon its leaders and activists, as well as people from different sections of society, to play a collective role in preventing the spread of dengue.

According to the press release issued by the party’s Central Publicity Department, individual awareness as well as coordinated initiatives at the local level are important to prevent the mosquito-borne disease.

The party also emphasised cleanliness and increasing awareness about mosquito breeding grounds as part of efforts to prevent dengue transmission.

The week-long campaign is intended to increase public participation in dengue prevention and encourage communities to work together to reduce the risk of the disease, the release said.
