The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has allocated Tk 9 crore 49 lakh 94 thousand 400 from the 2026-27 budget to meet the immediate costs of burying, cremating and transporting the bodies of freedom fighters.

The allocation was announced in an order issued by the ministry's budget wing on 29 September. The funds will be released to district commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs).

According to the order, the money will be spent from the Tk 18 crore allocated as grants for burial under the honorarium allowance head for wounded and other freedom fighters under the ministry's special activities in the 2026-27 operating budget.

District and upazila administrations will withdraw the allocated funds from their respective accounts offices.

The order instructed the chief accounts and finance officer to send the allocation authority to the relevant accounts offices according to the prescribed schedule.

The released funds will be adjusted against the burial grant allocation in the current fiscal year's budget.

District commissioners and UNOs will withdraw the funds from the respective district or upazila treasuries through proper bills.

The funds may be used only for the cremation, burial and transportation of freedom fighters' bodies and for no other purpose.

The order also instructed officials to follow government financial rules and procedures in spending the money. The concerned distributing authorities will be held responsible for any irregularities.

Any unspent amount remaining after 30 June 2027 must be deposited into the designated government treasury account, with the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs informed accordingly.

The ministry has instructed the district commissioners of all 64 districts and all UNOs to take necessary measures.

The order was signed by Dr Md Asaduzzaman, deputy secretary (budget) of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
