Police arrested a groom's father in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, on Saturday after he allegedly slaughtered a stolen cow to serve guests at his son's wedding reception.
Officers arrested the groom's father, Rafiqul Islam, from the Bakshichar area under Kamardah Union, seizing the slaughtered meat, cowhide, and head from the venue.
According to local sources, the wedding of Rafiqul's son Sohan took place on Friday, with the reception scheduled for the following day.
While family members were preparing the feast, local resident Shahidul Islam tracked footprint trails from his home—where a cow was stolen early Friday—straight to Rafiqul's residence.
Shahidul and his nephew Anarul identified the slaughtered animal as their stolen cattle, triggering a violent altercation. Rafiqul's second son, Rabbi, allegedly struck Anarul on the head with a sharp weapon during the confrontation, leaving him severely injured before police were alerted.
Upon arrival, Gobindaganj Police arrested Rafiqul Islam while the groom Sohan and his brother Rabbi fled the scene.
Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuz Alam confirmed that a case has been filed and operations are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
