A BNP activist in Chowgacha, Jashore, was allegedly framed as an banned Awami League leader and sent to jail in a sabotage case after his family refused to pay a 5 lakh taka bribe to local police.

Md Alamin, the son of the arrested activist Robiul Islam, filed a written complaint with the DIG of Khulna Range Police accusing Chowgacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rahman and several other officers.

The complaint included official certification letters from Narayanpur Union BNP President Torikul Islam Dablu and Chowgacha Upazila BNP President M.A. Salam, confirming Robiul's long-standing active membership in the BNP.

According to Alamin, police officers picked up Robiul from his home in Guatoli village late on Thursday night. He alleged that OC Mamunur Rahman demanded 5 lakh taka for his release and subsequently framed him in a sabotage case as an banned Awami League committee member when the family refused to pay.

Chowgacha Upazila BNP leaders condemned the arrest, alleging that the OC acted with political bias to target local BNP workers.

However, OC Mamunur Rahman denied all allegations of bribery and false framing, claiming Robiul is indeed an Awami League committee member who was lawfully arrested during a special drive.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Mirajul Islam stated that police authorities are currently investigating the matter.
