US Senator Chris Murphy has initiated a visit to the Middle East to assess structural damage from the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran while holding talks with key regional peace negotiators.
Murphy confirmed his arrival in Qatar via a post on X, noting that his itinerary also includes visits to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He highlighted that he is the first Democratic senator to travel to the Middle East since the escalation of hostilities.
Outlining three core objectives for his mission, Murphy stressed that US lawmakers must inspect damaged American installations on the ground to determine the true extent of the destruction.
He further stated that he will engage with Qatari and Saudi officials to evaluate the regional impact of the war and discuss ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire.
Reflecting on long-term strategy, Murphy emphasized the necessity of re-evaluating future US policy toward the Gulf region, adding that bipartisan congressional presence in the Middle East remains critical as the conflict continues to intensify.
