Nazifa Tushi wins Best Actress award

Bangladeshi film ‘Roid’ has won three awards at the 12th edition of the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada, with actress Nazifa Tushi receiving the Best Actress award for her performance in the film.

The film also won awards for Best Cinematography and Best Music, adding to its growing recognition on the international festival circuit.

Tushi was honoured for her portrayal of Sadu's wife in the film. Director Mezbaur Rahman Sumon and members of the film's team expressed their excitement over the achievement through social media.

The Mosaic International Film Festival, which has been held for more than a decade, is emerging as an important platform for South Asian cinema. This year's Best Film award went to Nepal's ‘Elephants in the Fog’, which previously received the Jury Prize in the “Un Certain Regard” section at the Cannes Film Festival.

‘Roid’ has also gained recognition at several international festivals. The film was selected for the main competition of the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival and has participated in a number of other international events.

The film has another major milestone ahead, having been selected as Bangladesh's entry for the International Feature Film category at this year's Academy Awards.

Set against a rural backdrop, ‘Roid’ draws on the mythical story of Adam and Eve to tell a mysterious tale. Alongside Tushi, the film stars Mostafizur Noor Imran, Gazi Rakayet and Ahsabul Yamin Riyad, among others.

The three awards at the Canadian festival add another achievement to the film's growing international journey.
