Four new areas of study will be introduced to the Class VI curriculum from 2027, said Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Tuesday.
The new subjects will be joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture, the minister said while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.
“Students will be introduced to joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture from Class VI.''
Milon added that the education programme would be reviewed and revised as necessary from 2028, with additional textbooks to be introduced based on requirements.
At the event, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said gas and fuel prices had increased in Bangladesh due to the war in the Middle East.
“However, diesel prices in Bangladesh are still lower than in neighbouring countries. The government is trying to keep fuel prices under control by providing the maximum possible subsidy,” he said.
Mahdi Amin described the current situation as a global crisis and said the government was working to resolve it in a way that would minimise the burden on the public.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon attended the event as a special guest, along with senior officials from various government departments and the education sector.
Cumilla Education Board Chairman Professor Md Ahsan Parvez chaired the programme.
Students from all education boards across the country are participating in the national competition.
