A large consignment of 120 kilograms of cannabis was seized from the chassis of a passenger vehicle in Mongla.
Three people, including the driver and helper of that vehicle, were detained.
SRB-06 conducted a raid in the Brahmanmeth area of the upazila around 1:00AM on Tuesday and seized the cannabis. The drugs were packed in six cartons.
The detained men were identified as Parvez, Nur Amin and Aminur Rahman. All three are from Rangpur Sadar upazila.
SRB-06 said cases have been filed against them at different police stations.
SRB-06 (Khulna) Deputy Director Syed Fazlur Rahman said they had received intelligence that a passenger vehicle carrying a consignment of cannabis from Kanchpur in Dhaka was heading towards Mongla via Morelganj in Bagerhat. The vehicle was kept under surveillance and was stopped after reaching the Brahmanmeth area.
He said, during quizzing, the driver, helper and another man informed that the cannabis had been hidden in the chassis at the rear of the vehicle. A search later led to the recovery of 120 kilograms of cannabis from six cartons.
According to SRB-06, the detainees admitted that cannabis had previously been transported in the same vehicle.
They are being questioned to identify others involved in the drug consignment, the agency said.
The process of filing a case against the three under the Narcotics Control Act is underway, the SRB-06 said.
