Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Jazan and Najran airports left at least three people slightly injured and caused some infrastructure damage, Saudi civil aviation authorities said on Tuesday (October 6).
The authorities said the attacks targeted the two airports in the country’s south, near the Yemen border. The Houthis had earlier claimed coordinated attacks on several airports and military bases in southern Saudi Arabia, as well as King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an Aramco refinery in Rabigh on the Red Sea coast.
Meanwhile, Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have launched a major counteroffensive to regain control of areas around the strategic port of Mokha and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj Gen Turki al-Malki said 100 coalition warplanes had joined the operation to support government forces and secure the airspace around Bab el-Mandeb.
The Houthis, however, denied claims that they had lost control of Mokha city.
Saudi Arabia has also activated joint preventive defence measures under its defence agreements with Türkiye and Pakistan amid continued Houthi attacks. Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman said arrangements had been made for the rapid deployment of allied military capabilities to protect the country’s sovereignty and holy sites.
