Eleven Indian sailors were injured after a projectile struck a Panama-flagged commercial vessel near Oman while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday (October 6), India’s Ministry of External Affairs said.

The vessel, MT On Peace, had 19 crew members aboard, including 17 Indian nationals. A total of 12 crew members were injured in the attack, 11 of them Indians.

The injured sailors were evacuated from the vessel with assistance from Omani authorities and are receiving treatment in Khasab, Oman.

India expressed deep concern over the incident and called for an immediate end to attacks on commercial vessels in the region, stressing the need to ensure the safety of civilian infrastructure, ships and sailors.

New Delhi also called for the restoration of normal maritime navigation and commercial activity on international waterways as soon as possible.
