Iran’s SNSC Secretary Major General Mohsen Rezaei has warned that the United States will fail to force Tehran into submission through economic pressure after failing to achieve its goals through military action.
In a post on X on Tuesday (October 6), Rezaei criticised US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s claims about the effectiveness of the US economic blockade against Iran.
Bessent has repeatedly claimed that the US maritime blockade has put Iran’s economy under severe pressure and would eventually force Tehran to negotiate with Washington and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Rezaei rejected the claim, saying Iran would reopen the strategic waterway only if the US lifted sanctions and blockade measures and accepted Tehran’s conditions for a permanent end to the war.
“You have lost the military war. You will also fail in the economic war,” Rezaei said, adding that the Strait of Hormuz could not be reopened through threats or pressure.
The Strait of Hormuz carries about one-fifth of global oil demand, making any restrictions on shipping through the waterway a potential threat to global energy markets and trade.
