Three people, including the son-in-law of Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abdul Gafur, have been sent to jail after completing remand in a case over an attack, vandalism and looting at New Guinea Properties near ECB Chattar in Dhaka.
The three are Mizanur Rahman, Aslam and Shah Alam Anik. Three other accused, Mamun, Munna and Shahriar Mahmud, have been placed on three-day remand for questioning.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail passed the orders on Wednesday after a hearing. Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
DB Inspector Jehad Hossain, investigation officer of the Gulshan zonal team, produced the six accused before the court. He sought their detention in jail and seven-day remand for the other three.
Defence lawyers sought bail for all six, while the prosecution opposed the pleas.
Earlier, Mizanur Rahman, Aslam and Shah Alam Anik had been placed on three-day remand. Another accused, retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, was arrested last Wednesday and was also remanded for three days. He later secured bail on Sunday.
The incident took place on September 26 at a New Guinea Properties housing project in South Manikdi near ECB Chattar. The attackers allegedly vandalised and looted the project, including content creator Salman Muqtadir’s “Brownfish” studio.
New Guinea Properties Director Saiful Islam Bhuiyan filed the case with Cantonment Police Station, naming 13 people, including Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury. Another 150–200 unidentified people were also accused.
Police said a land possession dispute has initially emerged as a possible motive, although the exact cause will be established after investigation.
