Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is working for the welfare of every citizen regardless of religion, caste, class, profession or community.
“We want to build a Bangladesh where religion, caste or identity will not stand in the way of anyone’s rights and opportunities,” he said.
The prime minister made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of the Hindu and Buddhist communities at his office in the Secretariat on Wednesday.
The representatives raised various issues and demands, while the prime minister assured them that their legitimate concerns would be given due consideration.
He also wished members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja and members of the Buddhist community on the occasion of Kathin Chibor Dan.
Later, he handed over Tk 5 crore to the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust and Tk 3 crore to the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust for their respective religious festivals.
The government has also declared a five-day holiday from October 20 to 24 on the occasion of Durga Puja.
