A Kushtia district Chhatra Dal leader has claimed that his younger brother was among those who assaulted National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari at the Lalon shrine in Kumarkhali.

Kushtia district Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Khandaker Taslim Uddin Nishat made the remarks while responding to journalists’ questions after a quiz competition and discussion at Amla Government College in Mirpur upazila on Thursday.

Referring to the recent attack on Patwari, Nishat said, “I can say loudly that one of my younger brothers was among those who beat him.”

He further claimed that Patwari was assaulted by members of the public and local shopkeepers over his language, calling him “ill-mannered” and saying that he deserved to be beaten.

Nishat also criticised the political role of NCP leaders, saying they would not become “bright stars” in Bangladesh’s politics and would eventually be consigned to the dustbin of history.

A video of Nishat making the remarks has since circulated on social media.

Patwari was recently attacked at the Lalon shrine premises in Chheuriya of Kumarkhali, triggering discussions and criticism over the motive behind the attack and those involved.
