Prime Minister’s Adviser and Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Dr Mahdi Amin has said no one will face discrimination in the new Bangladesh.

He made the remarks on Saturday morning at a Mahalaya programme organised by the Gulshan-Banani Sarbojonin Puja Foundation in the capital.

“Hindus, Muslims and everyone else share one identity they are all Bangladeshis. The current government’s plan is to ensure that everyone in the country lives with equal rights, security and dignity,” Mahdi Amin said.

He further said, “No one will face discrimination in this new Bangladesh. Everyone will live with their heads held high. There will be no minorities in the country; everyone will enjoy equal rights. Equality will replace discrimination.”

Dr Mahdi Amin said, the strength of Bangladesh lay in its people, adding that the elected government believed public welfare was its primary objective.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi, who was also present at the programme, said he prayed to Goddess Durga for the well-being of the entire world and for peace everywhere.

He also called for the destruction of evil forces, saying that demons could exist within people's thoughts and minds as well.

Trivedi said the ritual of tarpan was an occasion to remember ancestors who were no longer alive, adding that he prayed for peace throughout the world.
