Hurricane Isaias hit Florida in the United States with maximum sustained winds of around 170 kph, making landfall at around 7:30 PM Bangladesh time on Saturday.
The storm brought heavy rainfall to the eastern Gulf Coast region. It had earlier strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane before weakening to Category 2 at landfall.
The hurricane left around 850,000 customers in Florida and Alabama without electricity. Georgia was also affected, according to the BBC. All three states declared a state of emergency.
Isaias was the first hurricane to form in the Atlantic this year. It made landfall near Destin, Florida, and was forecast to move north through the Tennessee Valley, crossing Alabama on Saturday and Sunday.
The US National Weather Service warned of heavy rainfall and possible landslides in the southern Appalachians.
