Jamaat asks party leaders to prepare for local polls

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has urged party leaders to strengthen public engagement and prepare strategically for the upcoming local government elections, stressing the need to address local communities’ problems and expectations to earn public trust.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a daylong training session for members of district and metropolitan working committees organised by Jamaat’s Sylhet region at an auditorium in the Madina Market area of Sylhet city on Saturday.

Porwar said party leaders should develop well-planned strategies in advance to support the party’s candidates in local elections.

He emphasised the importance of identifying local needs, understanding public concerns and highlighting candidates’ competence, integrity, efficiency and engagement with communities.

He also called for better coordination among party workers, stronger organisational discipline and regular communication with the public.

The Jamaat leader said earning people’s confidence required standing beside them in times of hardship, identifying local problems and participating in public welfare activities.

He stressed that party representatives and activists should listen to ordinary people while ensuring transparency and accountability in their responsibilities.

Highlighting the importance of sacrifice, patience and moral integrity in political and organisational work, Porwar urged party members to put public welfare above personal interests.
