The inaugural ABG University Cup 2026, featuring cricket and football competitions among 10 leading private universities, is set to begin on October 25 at ABG Sports City, with Tk10 lakh in prize money for the champions.
The tournament logo was unveiled by Sayem Sobhan Anvir, chairman of Anvir Bashundhara Group (ABG), marking the launch of the initiative aimed at promoting sports among young people and strengthening university-level competition in Bangladesh.
Ahead of the tournament, a Captains’ Meet and Greet was held at the ABG chairman’s residence in Bashundhara Residential Area on Saturday night.
The inaugural edition will feature separate cricket and football competitions, with 20 teams representing 10 universities competing for the titles.
The participating institutions are American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), North South University (NSU), BRAC University, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Sonargaon University, United International University (UIU), Fareast International University, University of Scholars and Daffodil International University.
The organisers have announced Tk10 lakh for the champions and Tk 5 lakh for the runners-up, seeking to provide university athletes with a competitive sporting platform.
The tournament is expected to encourage greater student participation in sports, promote healthy competition among universities and help strengthen the culture of campus sports in Bangladesh.
