BCC launches drive to clear footpaths

BARISHAL, Oct 11: Barishal City Corporation (BCC) conducted an eviction drive in the Chowmatha area on Sunday to clear footpaths occupied by street vendors selling fruits, vegetables and other goods from pushcarts.

The encroachment had forced pedestrians to walk on the road, disrupting traffic and contributing to congestion in the area.

Md Raihan Uz Zaman, executive magistrate of BCC, conducted the drive. Latikullah, head of the BCC’s eviction section, Aziz Shaheen of the trade licence department, and Rezaul, head of the markets section, were also present.

Local residents called for regular monitoring and enforcement to keep the footpaths clear, stressing that effective measures were needed to prevent vendors from occupying the spaces again after eviction drives.
