Govt firm to reach edn, health benefits to people’s doorsteps: Dr Muhit

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 21: State Minister for Health Dr MA Muhit has said the government is committed to bringing education and health-care within reach of ordinary people while steadily improving the quality of health services.

He warned that the government will not tolerate drug sales and use, gambling or other criminal activities, directing local administration and police to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against such offenses.

He also said many offenders had already been brought to justice and that law-enforcement operations would continue to maintain law and order.

Speaking as the chief guest at a relief distribution event in Sanatani Union of Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj District on Tuesday afternoon, Muhit addressed the needs of 70 families affected by river erosion during recent flooding.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly to strengthen the party’s organisation. Muhit called for an end to disruptive politics and practices in which aspiring leaders seek advancement by following established leaders rather than serving the public.

He urged people to reject divisive politics and disinformation socially and to resist such practices collectively.

The minister also pledged long-term riverbank protection measures and the prompt repair of roads damaged by erosion.

At the event, authorities distributed 140 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and cash assistance to help the 70 affected families rebuild their homes.

Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabrina Sharmin and Officer-in-Charge of Shahjadpur Police Station Saiful Islam were among those attending.
