A threat email sent to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has warned of bomb attacks targeting Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan's residence and singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming concert, prompting security agencies to step up surveillance across the Indian city.
The email, received on Friday (October 23), also threatened an attack on the mayor's office at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, according to officials. Security personnel searched the premises but found nothing suspicious.
The message reportedly threatened to target Bachchan's Juhu residence, known as Jalsa, and Dosanjh's concert scheduled for November 27 at Mumbai's Mahalaxmi Racecourse. It also warned of a possible grenade attack on a school on October 31. The email reportedly contained references to Khalistan.
Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the sender and verify the credibility of the threats. Security has been tightened at the locations mentioned in the email, including the mayor's office, the concert venue and educational institutions. The identity of the sender has not been confirmed.
The development comes after Delhi Police denied permission for Dosanjh's concert scheduled for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing specific security inputs and law-and-order concerns.
