Aarong plants 100,000 trees across Bangladesh

Aarong, in partnership with BRAC and Mission Green Bangladesh, has planted more than 100,000 trees across 42 districts under its Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) campaign, turning proceeds from reduced paper bag use into environmental action and community support.

Between September 2025 and March 2026, the campaign reduced paper bag consumption by 46.8 lakh compared with the same period a year earlier, equivalent to saving around 6,000 trees. Paper bag sales generated Tk 2.9 crore during the period, which Aarong committed entirely to tree planting and environmental restoration, says a press release.

Of the total initiative, Aarong funded 95,382 fruit, timber and medicinal saplings through BRAC's Ultra-Poor Graduation programme. These were distributed among 40,001 households across 210 upazilas in 42 districts to support nutrition, income generation and economic resilience.

“Bring Your Own Bag began with a simple change in habit: carrying and reusing what we already have,” said Tamara Hasan Abed, Managing Director, BRAC Enterprises. “Today, those everyday choices are helping us plant trees, restore green spaces and create opportunities for communities across Bangladesh.”

Aarong also partnered with Mission Green Bangladesh to establish Miyawaki forests using native tree species. The initiative recently brought customers and media representatives together for a tree-planting drive at the Rupganj Miyawaki forest.

The BYOB campaign continues across all Aarong outlets, offering customers Tk 15 cashback when they bring their own bags.
