Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's B'Yachad party announced on Sunday (November 1), that it will officially recommend Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot to President Isaac Herzog to form Israel's next government.
The announcement, widely anticipated across political circles, was confirmed in a statement released by B'Yachad, which noted that Bennett had informed Eisenkot of his decision prior to their upcoming formal consultations with President Herzog.
The party stressed that Bennett had maintained throughout the campaign that he would respect the will of the voters, and is doing so by backing Eisenkot, whose Yashar party secured 21 seats compared to B'Yachad's 12 seats.
Coalition Numbers and Opposition Dynamics
Eisenkot has consistently maintained that the prime ministerial candidacy should belong to the leader of the largest party within the anti-Netanyahu opposition block. However, the opposition parties have yet to formally announce a broad coalition agreement.
While parties opposing outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cumulatively hold 67 seats in the 120-member Knesset, the Zionist anti-Netanyahu bloc accounts for only 48 seats. The remaining 19 seats held by non-Netanyahu forces belong to two Arab-led political parties.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu's right-wing alliance controls 53 seats, leaving both major camps short of the 61-seat majority required to form a government independently.
Capitalizing on the result, Eisenkot expressed his intention to utilize the opposition's parliamentary strength to engineer political change, declaring that voters issued a clear mandate against Netanyahu's government and calling for unified action within the new legislature.
