Barcelona suffer fresh injury setback ahead of Aston Villa clash

Barcelona have suffered another injury setback ahead of their Champions League clash against Aston Villa, with coach Hansi Flick unable to count on several sidelined players.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde will all miss Tuesday's match against Aston Villa.

Christensen took part in partial training with the squad on Sunday but was absent from Monday's session. The Danish defender instead trained individually.

Garcia and Kounde also trained separately from the main squad. Their availability for Sunday's La Liga fixture against Atletico Madrid remains uncertain.

Flick was also unable to offer an encouraging update on the injured players' return after Barcelona's 6-1 victory over Alaves.

"I still don't know when they will return. We are working on it. Their progress is good, but our situation is not ideal. We have to manage the next two matches. Christensen is close to returning to training, but we don't want to take any risks," he said.

Dani Olmo, Marc Casado and Roony Bardghji were also absent from Monday's training session. Several young players joined the first-team training in their absence.

Barcelona will host Aston Villa on Tuesday in their upcoming Champions League fixture.
