KHULNA, Nov 2: Khulna City is undergoing an extensive beautification drive ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s scheduled visit on November 5 to inaugurate the second edition of Notun Kuri Sports 2026 at Khulna District Stadium.

The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has launched a series of initiatives highlighting the history, heritage and natural beauty of the south-western region, creating a festive atmosphere across the city.

As part of the drive, colourful murals depicting the Sundarban, Royal Bengal tigers, deer, the historic Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat and other cultural and natural landmarks are being painted on walls at various locations.

The initiative aims to transform ordinary walls into displays of local heritage while making the city more attractive to residents and visitors.

The work is being carried out under the supervision of KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, with students from Khulna University’s Fine Arts Discipline participating in the mural paintings.

Manju said the corporation was working to present Khulna as a clean, beautiful and attractive city ahead of the prime minister’s visit.

“We are trying to portray Khulna’s history, heritage and natural beauty through murals. Our rich heritage, including the Sundarban and the Sixty Dome Mosque, should be an integral part of the city’s beauty,” he said.

Meanwhile, the district administration has directed government offices and relevant agencies to complete preparations for the visit.

These include arrangements for transportation, accommodation, helipads, ambulances, emergency medical services, uninterrupted power supply, generators, fire-fighting equipment and security.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat said officials and employees of all government offices had been instructed to maintain regular attendance, with measures taken to discourage unnecessary casual leave during the period.

SM Monirul Hasan Bappy, Khulna Zilla Parishad Administrator and Acting Member Secretary of the District BNP, said the visit had generated widespread enthusiasm.

The beautification drive has added to the festive atmosphere as Khulna prepares to welcome the prime minister on November 5.
