Four persons were found dead in separate incidents in Khulna and Bagerhat districts in two days.

KHULNA: Police recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of two men from the Atharo Baki River in Char Mosabbarpur Village under Aichgati Union in Rupsha Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased were Mehedi Hasan Sohag, 35, son of Abdullah of Rajapur Village in Rupsha, and Rezaul Karim, 30, of Singher Char area. Sohag was reportedly a boatman at Jailkhana Ghat.

According to police, Sohag was a member of the criminal gang known as ‘B Company’.

Rupsha Police Station (PS) Sub-Inspector Nur Alam said local residents spotted the bodies floating in the river around 12:30 pm and informed the police. A police team recovered the bodies around 1:30 pm.

Police are investigating the motive behind the killings and whether the deceased were involved in any criminal cases or belonged to any other criminal group.

BAGERHAT: Police have recovered the bodies of a housewife who died by suicide and an elderly woman reported missing since last month in two separate incidents in the district.

According to the district police office, 48-year-old Kulsum Begum hanged herself with a rope from a beam in an abandoned room while her husband was sleeping on Sunday night.

Her husband discovered her body hanging. Later, Sub-Inspector Nasir, in-charge of the Panchakaran police camp, along with accompanying forces, conducted an initial inquest before sending the body to the Bagerhat District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed with Morrelganj PS.

In a separate incident on Sunday evening, Chitalmari police recovered the decomposed body of 75-year-old Mini Begum from a garden on her family’s property in the Nalua area.

Begum had been missing since October 20. Her younger daughter, Moyna Begum, detected a foul smell prior to Sunday evening and entered the garden, where she discovered her mother’s remains.

Local law enforcement subsequently recovered the body and sent it to the Bagerhat District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A UD case has been filed with Chitalmari PS in this connection.
