
Police recovered the body of a 13-year-old schoolgirl from Faridpur upazila of Pabna district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Suraiya Khatun, daughter of Md Swapan Khan of Jontihar village under BL Bari union in the upazila. She was a Class VIII student.
According to sources, Suraiya went missing on January 13. Later on 16 January, her grandfather filed a general diary (GD) with Faridpur Police Station
On January 18 morning, five days after she went missing, locals discovered her body with hands, feet and mouth tied, partially submerged in a pond near Jontihar and the adjacent Bilnluya village and informed police.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the spot.
Family sources noted that Suraiya had minor mental health issues. Locals suspect that she was killed after being restrained and thrown into the water.
Faridpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shamim Akonji confirmed the incident and said that the body had been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
