10 years in jail for 6 robbers in Khulna fake police case

A court in Khulna has sentenced six people to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case involving robbery by posing as police officers.
However, only two of the convicted persons were present during the verdict, while others remained absconded. One accused was acquitted in the case.
Judge Md. Khurshid Alam of Khulna Additional District and Sessions Judge 4th Court announced the verdict on Tuesday. Bench Assistant Md. Shah Alam confirmed the ruling.
The convicted individuals are Mir Salim, Mahabubur Rahman, Md. Liton Dewan, Nasir Gazi alias Kabila, Kalam Dhali, and Shamim Biswas. The court acquitted Jihadul Biswas from the charges.
Additionally, the court sentenced convict Shamim to an extra 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 412, along with a fine of Tk 50,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
Md. Liton Dewan and Nasir Gazi alias Kabila were present in court when the judge delivered the verdict. The remaining convicts are currently absconding.
According to court sources, complainant Md. Rabiul Islam, a egg trader, closed his shop at Kapilmuni Market in Paikgachha Upazila on April 4, 2023, and left for home at around 11:45PM alongside an employee.
When they reached the front of the former chairman's house in Nasirpur village, four men on two motorcycles intercepted them. One of them wore a police uniform while the other three were in plain clothes.
They informed Rabiul that an arrest warrant was issued against him and instructed him to accompany them to the police station. They picked Rabiul up on a motorcycle but drove toward Magurkhali in Dumuria Upazila instead of the police station.
When Rabiul questioned where they were taking him, the suspects issued death threats. They robbed him of Tk 1 lakh in cash and a mobile phone before dumping him. The following day, Rabiul filed a case against unidentified individuals at Paikgachha Police Station.
On July 30 of the same year, Case Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Md. Shahjul Islam submitted a charge sheet against seven individuals in court.
