Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud said, "Major corruption has decreased during the current government's tenure. However, other types of corruption remain, such as litigation and the transfer business.

It costs around Tk 8 lakh to transfer a student in a college. I informed the intelligence agency, but they were unable to find out."

Wahiduddin Mahmud said this at a scholarship distribution ceremony organized by Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) on Wednesday. The ceremony was held at Karwan Bazar in the capital.

Wahiduddin Mahmud said there are hundreds of lobbying sessions in education ministry. Earlier, if you give a certain amount of money, you would get the job done, you did not have to come to the ministry.

Now everyone says, an opportunity has come, so they come to the ministry. Many people used to come in front of my room. I would skip them and go to the room.

The planning adviser said, "The fragile economy that the previous government has left has improved somewhat." However, there is still uncertainty in the economy.

This year, the GDP growth may be 5 percent. Inflation has not decreased as much as it should have been.
Wahiduddin Mahmud sounded critical of activities in various sectors of the economy during the previous Awami League government. He also said the economy seemed to be doing well that time but it was clear that the ground was moving away from under the feet of the banking sector.

Huge amounts of money had gone abroad. According to him, the rules and regulations of the financial sector had collapsed, which destroyed the budget discipline.

It was clear that even if there was no coup in 2024, its ramifications were like a coup later.

At event, scholarships and general stipend were given to the children of ERF members. East Coast Group Chairman Azam J Chowdhury, National life Insurance Chairman Tofazzal Hossain, Managing Director Md. Kazim Uddin, BRAC Bank Additional Managing Director and Head of SME Banking Syed Abdul Momen and other CEO of various organizations spoke at the event.

ERF President Daulat Akhtar Mala presided over the event. ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem moderated the event.
