College student dies after scarf caught in rickshaw wheel in Jhenaidah

A 23-year-old college student was killed when her scarf became entangled in the wheel of a battery-run rickshaw in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Khatun, daughter of Hafizur Rahman of Kulbaria village under Harinakundu upazila in the district. She was a fourth-year honours student at Jhenaidah Keshab Chandra (KC) College.

According to eyewitnesses, Sumaiya and her husband had earlier visited Akkaach Lakeview Park in Badarganj area under Chuadanga Sadar upazila and were returning home by auto rickshaw.

When they reached near Borai area, her scarf got caught in the rickshaw wheel, causing her to fall onto the road along with her infant child.

Later, locals immediately rescued her and took her to Jhenaidah General Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Jhenaidah Highway Police officer-in-charge (OC) Mrityunjoy Biswas confirmed the death and said that the body was handed over to her family on Sunday evening.
