
BAGHA, RAJSHAHI, Feb 10: A fierce contest is expected between the Paddy Sheaf and the Scale symbols in the Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) constituency. All preparations for the election have already been completed.
After receiving their electoral symbols, the candidates carried out intensive campaign activities over the past 22 days. Polling will be held at 119 centres across three municipalities and 13 union parishads in the two upazilas.
Rajshahi-6 comprises Bagha and Charghat upazilas. Four candidates are contesting the seat: Abu Sayeed Chand, District BNP Convener and Central Committee Member, contesting with the Paddy Sheaf symbol; Jamaat-e-Islami's nominee, Principal Nazmul Haque, contesting with the Scale; former District Jatiya Party (JaPa) Member Secretary Iqbal Hossain, contesting with the Plough; and Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB)'s nominee Abdus Salam Suruj, District Committee Secretary for Freedom Fighter Affairs and Joint Convener of Bagha Upazila unit, contesting with the Hand Fan.
Among the four contenders, a tight race is anticipated mainly between the Paddy Sheaf and the Scale candidates. Voters said, the final outcome is likely to be decided between these two major contenders.
Upazila Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shammi Akter said, all preparations for the election have been completed. "From Wednesday morning, election materials will be distributed to the polling centres," she said.
She added that Rajshahi-6 has a total of 304,275 voters, including 151,687 women and 152,588 men.
Law enforcement agencies and election officials have taken comprehensive measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly polling process across the constituency.
