The government has directed English medium schools and coaching centres across the country to begin their Ramadan vacation from Monday in an effort to ease public hardship during the holy month.
The directive, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Shirin Akhter of Secondary and Higher Secondary Division, said the decision was taken to help reduce public suffering during the holy month of Ramadan.
The decision was finalised at a meeting between representatives of English medium schools and the education authorities, chaired by Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon.
Under the new directive, academic classes at English medium schools will remain suspended from Monday until the government-declared holiday for Eid ul-Fitr.
However, previously scheduled compulsory examinations under foreign curricula will continue as planned.
The government order also states that all coaching centres; both Bangla and English medium, will remain closed during this period.
