
JHENAIGATI, SHERPUR, Apr 1: Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel, BNP-nominated candidate for Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi-Jhenaigati), has stressed that the victory of the Paddy Sheaf symbol is essential to safeguard the rights of the people and advance development in the constituency.
Speaking at an election rally held on the Rangtia High School ground in Jhenaigati Upazila on Monday at 5:30 pm, ahead of the national parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, Rubel highlighted the government's initiatives under BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman. He said the administration has made a promising start in fulfilling pre-election promises, including the long-awaited introduction of family cards, honorariums for religious service providers, waiver of agricultural loans, and a nationwide canal excavation programme.
Rubel has been fully engaged in door-to-door campaigning, visiting markets and interacting with voters alongside party workers and supporters. He is presenting pledges covering education, healthcare, road development, modernisation of agriculture, and employment generation. Voters have responded positively to his efforts, citing his long-standing engagement in resolving local education, health, and civic issues.
"BNP stands for development, and there is no alternative to the Paddy Sheaf symbol if this progress is to continue," Rubel said, urging voters to support the symbol in the upcoming polls.
The rally was organised by Nolku?? Union BNP and its associate bodies, chaired by Acting President Md. Hamid Master. Present at the event were upazila BNP Convener Alhaj Shahjahan Akand, Member Secretary Md. Lutfur Rahman, former Upazila Chairman Md. Aminul Islam Badsha, Senior Joint Convener Engineer Touhidur Rahman, Joint Convener Md. Shamim Mostafa, Samiul Haque Sada, Md. Shamim Hossain, Nolku?? Union Parishad Chairman and BNP General Secretary Md. Rokonuzzaman, and BNP leader Abu Saleh Ahmad.
The event was also attended by large numbers of leaders and activists from BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Chatra Dal, Mahila Dal, and other affiliate organisations, as well as people from various walks of life.
According to district election office sources, polling in Sherpur-3 was initially postponed and later cancelled after the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal on February 3. A new schedule has now been announced, with voting set for April 9.
The constituency, comprising 17 unions and one municipality, has a total of 413,277 registered voters. Contesting the Sherpur-3 seat are Md. Masudur Rahman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel of BNP, and Md. Mizanur Rahman of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist).
