Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has criticised the government's plan to hold online classes three days a week in all schools and colleges in the country's major cities, calling it 'short-sighted' and expressing strong opposition.
In a statement issued on Thursday (April 2), he said that a coordination meeting held at the Secretariat on March 31 decided to implement online classes three days a week in educational institutions across all major cities, including Dhaka.
He described the decision as highly unintentional and short-sighted, accusing the government of forcing vulnerable students into online classes under the pretext of the energy crisis, which he called part of a deliberate conspiracy to undermine the nation's intellectual potential.
Porwar warned that an online-based education system exposes students to multiple disadvantages.
The high cost of internet access leaves many poor students disconnected from learning. The use of smartphones for online classes risks addiction and moral degradation among young students.
