The national parliament on Tuesday converted 14 ordinances, issued during the interim government period, into law while introducing two additional bills for future consideration.
Ministers and state ministers from relevant ministries presented a total of 16 bills during the tenth day of the ongoing session, with both morning and afternoon sittings held to expedite the legislative process.
The morning session saw the passage of eight bills including the Haor and Wetland Conservation Bill, Code of Criminal Procedure Amendment Bill, Civil Courts Amendment Bill, International Crimes Tribunals Amendment Bill, and Registration Amendment Bill. Parliament also approved amendments to three medical university laws covering Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Sheikh Hasina Medical University, and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Medical University in Sylhet.
The Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage Control Amendment Bill was introduced during the morning session and will be passed later with amendments.
During the afternoon sitting, lawmakers approved six more bills including the Appropriation Supplementary Act 2026, Appropriation Act 2026, Power and Energy Quick Supply Enhancement Special Provisions Repeal Act 2026, and Commercial Courts Act 2026.
Bills amending the Bangabandhu Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Academy and Sheikh Rasel Rural Development Academy Rangpur were also passed.
Additionally, the National Freedom Fighters Council Amendment Act 2026 was introduced for future consideration.
Parliament has been holding extended sessions to meet the April 9 deadline for ratifying 133 ordinances issued during the interim government's tenure.
The special committee reviewing these ordinances has recommended passing most of them with varying degrees of modification while suggesting the repeal of four ordinances.
