Tourist spots in Cox's Bazar to be brought under free internet coverage: Minister Swapan

COX'S BAZAR, Apr 11: The current government is working to bring tourist spots, including Marine Drive in Cox's Bazar, under free internet coverage, said Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. 

He stated that under the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government continues its efforts to deliver internet services to people's doorsteps. Simultaneously, the government is prioritising bringing fishing trawlers operating in the Bay of Bengal under satellite-based internet coverage for their safety. In this regard, the Minister sought cooperation from all concerned.

The Minister made these remarks as the chief guest at an exchange meeting titled 'Internet for All', organized by the District Administration on Saturday afternoon in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC)'s office in Cox's Bazar.

During the exchange meeting, the Minister said that four airports in the country have been brought under free Wi-Fi zones. Free internet services are also being provided on four intercity trains, including the Tourist Express and the Cox's Bazar Express.

The exchange meeting was presided over by DC Md. A. Mannan. Adviser to the Prime Minister Rehan Asif Asad, Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Abdun Naser Khan, and Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman also spoke.

The meeting discussed safe internet usage, cybersecurity, the benefits of using the internet in education, and ensuring its accessibility at the grassroots level. Officials from various government and private departments, along with other stakeholders, were present.

Later, the Minister inaugurated free internet service for passengers at the iconic Cox's Bazar Railway Station and visited the submarine cable station.
