Teen girl found hanging in Noakhali

Police recovered the hanging body of a 10-year-old girl from Noakhali Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Jannat, daughter of Md Belal, a resident of Dharmapur village in the upazila.

According to locals, both of Jannat’s parents are employed and were at their respective workplaces during the day. Jannat had been at home with her younger brother. In the afternoon, her brother went out to play, leaving her alone in the house.

When her mother returned from work in the evening and could not find her daughter, she began searching the premises. She eventually discovered Jannat’s body hanging from a branch of a mango tree in the courtyard. Her screams alerted neighbours, who then notified the police.

Being informed, police arrived at the scene around 10:30 PM to recover the body.

Sudharam Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Mozammel Hossain stated that no injury marks were found on the body during the initial inspection.

"The body has been sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Specific reason behind the suspected suicide has not yet been determined," added the SI.
