Colorful celebrations mark Pahela Baishakh in Bhola's Charfesson

Charfesson upazila in Bhola district celebrated Pahela Baishakh 1433 with vibrant festivities and enthusiastic public participation, turning the Bengali New Year into a joyful community event.

A day-long programme filled the area with a festive spirit. The celebrations began at 9:00 AM with a colorful Baishakhi procession organized by the upazila administration. The procession saw participation from political leaders, government and private officials, teachers and students from various educational institutions, as well as representatives from print, online and electronic media.

The procession featured traditional rural symbols such as birds, fish and decorative masks, reflecting the rich folk heritage of Bengal and adding a unique cultural dimension to the celebration.

Following the procession, a cultural programme was held at Fashion Square, organized by Upazila Shilpakala Academy. Local artists performed songs, dances and poetry recitations, showcasing the traditions and cultural identity of the Bengali people. 

The audience enjoyed the performances with great enthusiasm.

Upazila Acting Executive Officer and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Emadul Hossain said that the Bengali New Year symbolizes the country’s secular spirit. “Pahela Baishakh is a festival of life for Bengalis and an integral part of our heritage. Such arrangements aims to pass this tradition on to the new generation,” he added.

As part of the celebration, competitions in painting, poetry recitation and essay writing were also organized. 

Students from different educational institutions took part, demonstrating their creativity and talent. Winners were later awarded prizes, spreading joy and excitement among participants.

With its colorful arrangements and spontaneous participation, the Pahela Baishakh celebration in Charfesson turned into a truly lively and memorable festival.
