At least 12 individuals were injured in a clash between two groups in Shailkupa municipality of Jhenaidah district after a dispute over an unpaid tea bill escalated into violence on Friday morning.

The incident took place in Khaldharpara area when a local resident, Ripon Hossain, went to a tea stall owned by Shahjahan. Shopkeeper Shahjahan reportedly refused to serve tea on credit, citing previous unpaid dues.

According to eyewitnesses, an argument broke out between the duo, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Following the initial dispute, supporters from both sides became involved, leading to a confrontation in which locally made arms were used, causing at least twelve individuals to be injured.

Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The injured include several individuals identified as Nayeb Ali, Ripon Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Tamal Hossain and Abdur Razzak, among others.

Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex duty doctor Mahbub Alam Parvez confirmed that multiple injured persons were admitted to the hospital.

Shailkupa Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Humayun Kabir Mollah said the situation was later brought under control after police were deployed in the area.

“An altercation over serving tea on credit led to the clash. The situation is now under control,” he said, adding that legal steps would be taken if required.
